Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

FOLS is one of the most efficient and simple ways of demonstrating that someone has been assessed and is competent to carry out a particular task.  If an incident or accident occurs at your workplace, evidence that you have been trained and assessed to the appropriate standards and that your skills are current will be sought. FOLS provides a database to store these records and the FOLS mobile App. summarises your training.

Most forest managers require forest workers (employees of contractors, self-employed people who access forests) and often their staff to hold a current FOLS.

There are 4 steps to complete a FOLS:

1. Personal details
2. Employer
3. Skills – a Statement of Attainment or Certified transcript from your Registered Training Organisation for each skills you use in your job role
4. Currency Statement – a statement from your employer stating you are currently using your skills

Once payment has been received and this information is verified your FOLS will be available via the App.

Skills currency provides for WHS requirements under the HVNL and various state-based Codes for safety in forestry operations.

The Currency Statement is an essential tool to demonstrate that an individual has maintained their skills through regular practice and this recognition is valued and necessary across the supply chain.

The Currency Statement or Verification of Currency (VOC), demonstrates that the person has been using the skills that they have been trained and assessed as competent to undertake. In signing the currency you are confirming that the person has been using those skills in the last 3 years and that you are unaware of any major incidents pertaining to these activities.

This statement can be signed by an employer, forest manager or another person who has observed the person using their skills. They need to be comfortable to indicate that regardless of the last time they were trained and assessed, in their opinion their skills are current and without major incident.

We are often asked who signs a currency if they are self-employed? In these cases often the forest manager or the company a person is contracted to work for signs this form.
